Science , the beauty of humanity PART 1

This post or this series of posts ( depending on the extent of my annoying yet irrepressible - verbosity) , unlike some of the posts on this blog , has come out of necessity , it is born out observation , and the sheer and utter revulsion , and my growing distaste for human nature . In fact , if it is truly “natural” for us, to be the way we are , then annihilation , though simple it may seem, seems to be the only solution .

Before I begin , and immerse myself , with my repugnant need to express rather than suppress , at all times . I would like to implore the reader , to please question everything I say . I am after all an amateur. Thus , the manner in which I convey my points on any given topic , which I touch on , may be either extremely flawed or simply warrants the questioning of a more sagacious individual .




An instantaneous crescendo of noise clatters from beneath the bowels of what I would refer to as the rancid and vapid depths of the bigoted mind , a mind that favors a conspiracy over reason and credulity over rationality. The infant like shrill cries, that comes from the individual that posses that mind , always seems to be the same , the rhetoric that epitomizes humanities most common trait our ability to , always find a way to bite the hand that feeds . Like a baby slamming his rattle demanding for food , the fool demands the death of Science and reason . It’s so easy ( in fact it’s absolutely predictable ), for men to hunt deer , because they realize that hunting lions would be a perilous endeavor for one to partake . The same figure of speech can be applied towards humanity’s current conviction that Science and technology , are our adversaries , rather than pointing the finger at the real culprits ,after all , it is our nature to point the blame at the weak . You can’t stand up to religion , because it is “immoral” , you can’t stand up to voracious politics , for you will be silenced , and you won’t stand against capitalism , because deep down , we all love money and the appeal of standing on a high perch and looking down at another. Hence , we do what we have done , and probably will always continue to do , so long as the disease , that is humanity continues , we devour what has helped us to survive for as long as we can possibly remember .


MYTH ONE : Technology is the enemy .



The reason I bring Science into the equation here is simply because, technology is a byproduct of Science, and Science is effectively synonymous with humanity , regardless of whether we like it or not . The same way a cheetah is synonymous with speed and a cobra is venomous. Through natural selection , each species develops its own special trait that has helped it survive , after all that is the only true definitive purpose of live and evolution – survival , the only genes that get passed on , are the genes of a triumphant species , and considering that there are roughly 6.802 billion humans today , our species has indeed been exultant . Especially when placed in comparison with our close cousins the chimpanzees, who are slowly but surely going extinct. Research also shows, that our common ancestors the hominids, were also extremely intelligent, compared to the rest of the animal kingdom. The reason humans have not only been able to survive to this day and but also quite possibly be at the hierarchy of the evolutionary food change, is simply because we have the most well developed brain. Thought and reason are processes that go on in the brain, that emerge from complicated interactions between nerve cells in the brain, that has reached / evolved to its highest point in the human species. Hence, thought and reason which are the key components of Science (other than evidence of course), are the main reasons we have been able to survive for such an elongated period.



Science and technology, has been around, for pretty much as long as humanity has, so long , in fact , that it predates the words (science and technology) itself. From our accidental discovery of fire to our first step on the moon, these two key components (science and technology) are quintessential to our survival and have done nothing but pull us forward. Yes , you may argue that the discovery of fire was probably purely accidental , and has nothing to do with Science , but then again so was the theory of gravity , an apple falling on Newton’s head ( which was purely accidental ) was the catalyst to what is probably one of the greatest Scientific ideas of all time . Science has not only found the way , to help us understand our world better , and marvel in the sheer beauty of the natural world , it has also pretty much found a way to accommodate the basic needs of every man , woman and child . The word Science is derived from the Latin word “scientia”, which means knowledge. So, Science and technology aren’t inhibitors of human progress, instead they are proponents and catalysts of it, Science is human knowledge, and technology is simply the physical manifestation of that knowledge.



MYTH TWO : Technological advancement will kill the need for real
social interaction.



I believe in a borderless world, one where the only race that matters is the human race, no religion, no racial segregation, no fascism and no apartheid. Thus, I commend and applaud social interaction services such as facebook, msn , skype , blogger , myspace etc. for allowing and giving us the absolutely crucial opportunity to network with people all around the world , thus making it a smaller place . Especially, considering we live in ******** where freedom of speech is nonexistent and censorship is second nature to our ignorant government. (Which truly begs the question does democracy really exists or is it like God, simply a deceptive and comforting fascia masking the truth?) Through facebook , I have made friends with interesting people who share my views ( and some that don’t ) , whom I doubt , I would have ever had the opportunity to meet , if it weren’t for this absolutely remarkable technology . If it weren’t for the internet and global social interaction , I’m willing to place a wager , that ******** ns , would simply be ignoramuses , unaware of the world around us , and simply gullible enough to believe anything our pompous government spoon feeds us . This would not surprise me considering our longest serving prime minister Dr M. , said himself in an interview – “I will not allow freedom of speech to destroy this country”, when asked why the government was cracking down on black metal. The internet and social interaction services are absolutely vital to us to attain information, art and movies, which under normal circumstances will most definitely not be available to us. I don’t feel the need to divulge into music and how these sites have helped indie bands prosper and garner an audience, because I am sure everyone is fully aware of that.


Now as for the general notion , that technology will eventually abolish the need for real human interaction , I would once again implore you to study the history of evolution , humans are hard wired to socialize and seek comfort in the traditional way and have been doing so for a million years now , for facebook or Skype to replace genuine social interaction , it would take an estimated 20-35 generations ( this a rough estimate ) , and even if this does happen , it is extremely implausible considering facebook only has an estimated 350 million members worldwide which is barely a statistic when placed in comparison to the world’s population which is as I said earlier is according to the United State Consensus Bureau is 6.802 billion , and for natural selection to favor something which is this case is the gene that will supposedly diminish the need for real human interaction , it will require a far greater majority than that . 350 million, now that is simply a statistic in the eyes of nature, and insignificant in the eyes of the cosmos.



So I think it is safe to say, technology's newest social interaction paraphernalia, will not diminish the need for genuine, three dimensional, flesh and bone – communication. In fact , I would argue that , facebook , msn , Skype , Friendster , MySpace and all the other social sites and softwares we have today , are simply the end product of our constant need to socialize and interact , and help us fuel the flame of genuine interaction and keep it burning even longer . Facebook/Skype is akin to foreplay, it builds up the anticipation for the main event, and nothing will ever replace the key spectacle. After all humans are social animals, we have lived in colonies/groups/tribes/communities (pick your word of choice) for centuries and possibly even longer. Today even the loneliest misanthrope will either have a blog ( I epitomize this notion ), or a single friend be it virtual one or real one to talk too, or he or she will develop a split personality much like Gollum from lord of the rings (excuse the analogy, it just fits really well). Simply because humans need to express, interact, be comforted and feel the warmth from one another. That is the way we have been for eons, and that is quite possibly based on the preponderance of the evidence – how we always will be. Facebook is parallel to pornography, and genuine social interaction is analogous to sex, thus it would be utterly preposterous to say or assume that pornography will ever replace sex.



MYTH THREE : Science and technology will make us forget how to be
human .




I’m not going to try and dispel this myth , I am simply going to advocate the notion that we should forget to be human . After all , I personally feel that looking at the current state of humanity today; we should most definitely forget how to be human. Let us look at the three things that have become synonymous with humanity today , which I ( and a close friend ) view as the three main retardants of mankind’s progression - greed ( economics ) , power ( politics) and superstition ( religion ). A potent amalgamation of these three abominations of mankind has created what I refer to as humanities anchor, for it keeps us from moving forward. I have irreverently dubbed this trinity, as the pecoda trinity. Each component, of this deadly trinity has either abused Science and technology or inhibited it from progressing.


MYTH FOUR : Science and Technology causes the loss of jobs and destroys the
environment and makes us sloths .



I shall begin with economics . We live in a society where 1 % of the people own a nauseating 80% of the world’s collective wealth. Now, one should stop and wonder how such an atrocity has been allowed to occur, the answer is simple – capitalism. Capitalism is possibly one of the most sordid economic systems there is, as it allows cooperations and individuals to be callous and selfish and compete, in order to make the most wealth. Unlike socialism and or pure Marxism, capitalism has no regard for what is best for the people or nature. Hence it allows people, to abuse our natural resources, exploit cheap labor, and more importantly it allows more than one company to create a similar product, which is truly a sordid and ghastly waste of natural resources. While I understand that variety is important to ensure that companies don’t get complacent and healthy competition is assured , there is fine line between variety for purpose , and variety for the sake of making a quick buck , which is not only frivolous , but it also depletes our natural resources and floods the market , which can effectively result in inflation .



While I agree , that Science and technology , if fueled towards our laziness will only result in our downfall, and make us “sloths”, I feel we should also take a hard look at the companies who exploit what Science develops, for disabled people, and produces it for the masses, because they know people are lazy. One good example of these are the wheel chair/scooter esque motorized mini vehicles ( sorry but I am unaware of the appropriate term , and google isn’t helping much either) that people use to move around in work and even at home simply because their lazy to walk . Now this is a completely and utterly absurd product, one that should have never been developed for the able bodied masses, however what is right does not matter to companies today they create deterrent’s to humanity and our health, so long as they can make a colossal profit. McDonald’s is the best example of this scenario , they create food that is full of artificial preservatives and chemicals , yet through their advertisements they proclaim that their food is healthy , you know something is truly wrong with the world when a McDonald’s burger is given a “tick” , by the World Heart Federation . False advertising is second nature to companies like this who create products that destroy humanity and the sickest and most revolting thing is these people target kids. Cholesterol is the number one killer in the world today , yet you see the government prevaricating and pushing pass this subject by claiming that drugs are still the number one killers and should be avoided , I will simply say this when was the last time marijuana killed anyone ?? And then compare that to how many obese people there are today and how many of those will probably die, as a result of their obesity.



Conversely, if we lived in an equal society where everyone shared the same status, had the same amount of money, and there were no lords and masters just men, then I could see the appeal of robots being used to help do manual labor clean our houses and do all the things that we don’t want to do or need help doing. Which is way more humane than exploiting cheap Indonesian maids and inexpensive foreign labor, or simply exploiting those who come from a less fortunate background, to work as our slaves, yes they are paid, but in my opinion clearly not enough, people should be paid in accordance to how much work they put in, and these people put in every ounce of sinew they can muster, yet they are grossly underpaid and exploited. CEO’s and directors sit on chairs and decide how they can suck a country dry and exploit humanity and our natural resources , yet these people are payed a lot . Is it right for a politician to drive a Mercedes when the rest of the country is still blemished with poverty?? Is it ethical for these people to live in gargantuan houses, while schools can’t even afford decent computers?? . The answer is no. There should not be such a huge division/gulf between the rich and the poor, in fact today in the 21st century, there shouldn’t be any division at all, yet we still live in a morbid world without even an iota of equality. A government will always seek to divide its people, so they can bleed a country dry; a democracy is where every four years, the oppressed vote for their new oppressors, who will oppress them for the next four years.

How can anybody not love a democracy ?? Every four years , we get to vote for the lesser of two evils . Whats not to like ??

It honestly amazes me how inanity and humanity go hand in hand.





The common good, and morality are two things that a Capitalist utopia seems to be oblivious too, hence companies can retrench workers, simply because they do not require the man power, or so they can make more money. Technology is in place to help products get produced faster and easier and in greater amounts, in accordance to the supply and demand. This should not really diminish the need for manual labor if companies stopped to think about the collective good and its duty to society, instead of constantly thinking about making the most profit in the most cost efficient manner.

When I was in India, I saw manual labor being used to place tar on a new road, not because there wasn’t the appropriate technology available, this was done simply to provide jobs and a source of income for those with a limited skill set and education, this is a small example of how compassion can go a long way, and more importantly it also demonstrates how despite the availability of modern technological contrivances, job opportunities will not be lost.


The decisions made by hedonistic CEOs , is what is taking away our job opportunities not technology , the lack of empathy that exists in the business world today is the simple reason , why the rich are getting richer , and the poor are getting poorer , and the middle class have to continue to work as slaves to those in power . The rich , love the poor , as they serve as a reminder to the middle class , it reminds them how bad it can be , if they stopped working and decided to stand up to those in power . Of course, one can say that companies do donate to charities, hence I’m not really being fair toward these pernicious creatures, well of course they donate to charities, it’s a way boosting the companies name and brand as a company that cares and one that gives back to society and more importantly these donations are made for one simple reason or more specifically two simple words – TAX EXEMPTION.



MYTH FIVE : Science and technology has destroyed the environment .




Now, I will demonstrate how politics and economics, work hand in hand, not only to exploit technology, but also destroy nature. It is an inescapable fact, that a country is a slave to its biggest investors, without the gargantuan tax sums these companies pay; a government will naturally lose a lot of its income. For example in ********, PETRONAS itself pays billions of ringgit in taxes, hence it is no real surprise to see that anything they want they get. Due to their blind lust for money, governments approve projects that are completely inane. When it comes to approving a project, the disruption of nature, really does not matter to these ravenous people, I think it is safe to say that a project that destroys nature is acceptable in their eyes so long as it brings in revenue to the country. Look around you , how many abandoned buildings do you see , how many absurd housing developments do you see , that have no residents , simply because the projects were built for profit ( not purpose ), and were unnecessary to begin with , and most of these wastes of resources and space , would have probably caused us a forest or more depending on the situation . Politicians are simply marionettes, and the ventriloquists are those with the deepest pockets. Science has discovered a way to harness solar energy and use it to run a house effectively , and for no less than the price of a local newspaper , yet solar panels are still so expensive and governments do not want to subsidize it , simply because , as the result of the effective implementation and use of this ground breaking technology , there will be companies who are and have proven to be profitable cash cows , will stand to lose a great deal ( and the same concept can be used in the instance of alternative fuel ) . Politics has abused and mangled Science and technology to reap both financial gain and to attain imperium so much, that it abhors me to the point where I am completely and utterly repulsed by it.




Pollution and deforestation are purely and solely down to poor planning, and a blind pernicious lust for money, as I have said before science has discovered alternative fuels, and better ways to dispose of waste yet, companies refuse to adopt these methods simply because they cost more. Politics and economics destroy nature not Science and technology. These depraved edifices (politics and economy), exploit all that is good and green and good in this world, simply for wealth. Perhaps only when the last fish is caught, and the last tree is cut, and the last ocean is drained, only then these sinister and menacing retardants of our progression will realize – THEY CANT EAT MONEY.



I would also like to add on the subject of deforestation and the extinction of wildlife it is not entirely man kinds fault, after all due to natural selection, roughly 10 – 15 different species of flora and fauna go extinct each year, that is simply the way nature works, that’s the way she ensures the checks and balances, this is a system perfected through billions of years of evolution.

Also , the notion that we are going to , in some way “save the planet” , is another demonstration of man kinds pompous arrogance . While save the planet, is a better catch phrase , that doesn't make it any closer to the truth . No good can come from a lie, and I believe history has shown us that . If men are really that arrogant, that they won’t save something, unless it is something that is bigger than themselves . Then arrogance has definitely engulfed humanity.




The planet Earth is quite possibly the only planet in the universe that is acceptable to life ( this is based on what we know now , the probability that there are other planets similar to earth is a possibility considering science has not yet explored the entire universe , which is something that is fairly difficult but definitely not impossible ) . If earth wasn’t inhabited by our way of life, it would simply be home to another life form that is the reality.




The universe is between 13.5-14 billion years old

The earth is around 4.5 -4.6 billion years old .


Hominids according to fossil evidence and the latest discovery of Ardi (Ardipithecus Ramidus ) have been around for 4.4 million years.


Modern humans according to fossil evidence have only been existent for the last
200 000 years .



The earth has been fine for billions of years without humanity , and it will be fine for billions of years without it . The probability that the earth will be destructed by an external force is higher , than the assumption that it will be destroyed by an internal one .



The earth has been through, asteroids, solar flares, continental shifts and various other calamities, yet it is perfectly fine and has been for billions of years. Yet due to our sordid arrogance , we assume that plastic , among other things will somehow destroy the planet ( in fact the planet , will possibly adopt plastic into a new paradigm , because that is the way evolution works , essentialism does not exist in evolution there is no perfect form ). The planet is fine and it will be fine, now and definitely beyond the foreseeable future. What we are really trying to do here, through all these environmental campaigns, is protect our way of life, which clearly demonstrates how arrogant and selfish we really are. While I support these campaigns in its entirety I feel they should stop using terms like save the planet , and tell people what we are really trying to do which is protect our way of life . People like Al Gore have greatly exaggerated global warming , to the point where he assumes that within the next ten – twenty years somehow everything will cave in , I would like to add that Mr. . Gore, has stakes in companies that are working on developing alternative fuels/environmentally friendly products, so you can easily understand his need to blow things out of proportion. Everyone has an ulterior motive, duality is the pestilence of the modern era, there no straight lines any longer, and everything is bent and distorted in a million ways. The first key exaggeration that is made by Gore and various other movies related to global warming is the claim that due to the melting of ice caps , sea levels will rise by 20 ft. “in the near future” , was dismissed as completely and utterly absurd , ludicrous and alarmist. After all, for rise to take place it would take place only after and over millennia. The Armageddon scenario that he predicts, insofar, as it suggests that sea level rises of up to seven meters, in not at all in line with scientific consensus. Mr. Gore’s fraudulent claims absolutely abhor me .



Humans truly have aesthetic minds , when it takes a movie , full of self righteous and botched claims to raise our awareness .



While I agree that global warming is an imminent treat, it is not as great as proposed in the media today. Yes, we should strive towards a greener environment, and try to consume less energy. Or we will end destroying our way of life as we need know it today; however we should not treat it as a fad, which is what the current hype around this issue is today. Scientists have been conducting studies , that show global warming is an imminent threat to our survival long before people like Gore , yet politicians have dismissed these claims and tried to play them down as much as possible , so they can continue their exploitation of mother nature , with no real opposition . Science and technology has been at the forefront in creating more nature friendly devices and protecting nature, through breeding science has also been able to prevent several different endangered species from going extinct. Science and technology are nature’s comrades; hence I find it ironic and absolutely saddening when I hear people who claim that Science and Technology are the key elements that have destroyed nature. Political voracity and biased economics, now these are the real culprits here.




Now it’s time to look at the subject of religion, which is arguably Science and rationalities greatest foe. Religious institutions have been trying to halt the progress of Science to preserve the accuracy and sanctity of their divine doctrines, all throughout the course of history , if it weren’t for religious inhibition and inquisitions all throughout the dark ages , who knows , Science will have progressed to such an admirable state , that we would be exploring other galaxies now , and perhaps humanity would have colonized planets far beyond Earth and the Milky Way galaxy , the possibilities are endless . Yet powerful religious lobbies who have great influence and clout in the political arena , constantly try to inhibit stem cell research prevent the teaching of Darwin’s FACT of evolution in schools and basically halt the progress of Science and technology as a whole . Religious explanations and religious reasoning (another oxymoron), are today due to science, viewed as extremely embarrassing and absurd hypotheses, that we conceived at a period that I view and shall call the infancy of mankind, a time when because we have brains that through evolution are designed to be curious and seek knowledge, we created ludicrous assumptions as too why we are here and how we came to be. Whether it was the theory that diseases are the end product of god’s wrath or the theory that tsunami’s and earthquakes are god’s punishment to humanity. Sadly , today despite the fact that Science (through technology) , has clearly found viable explanations to almost every phenomenon and occurrence , there are still people who have a great deal of power in society who stick to archaic and farcical explanations to as to why disasters occur and diseases spread . In Africa children , are being killed because they are perceived to be witches and the cause of certain diseases . When floods occurred in Yorkshire , England , the church claimed that it was God’s punishment because we accepted homosexuality . The most despicable of these examples is probably the claims of the late Reverend Jerry Fallwell, who said that the 9/11 tragedy was also god’s punishment against homosexuals . Science has also been crushed today in the field of medicine , faith healers and charlatans , exist throughout the world , who speak of the evils of modern medicine and then you have people like Deepak Chopra , who steals scientific jargon and uses to claim that his farcical methods work , in place of modern medicine . There is no alternative medicine, there is medicine that works and medicine that doesn’t.




However, I have not even gone into the most despicable of the examples yet, Science has abolished the threat of polio many years ago, but sadly today polio is slowly creeping back into society. In Botswana , the church is against the government’s plan to give vaccination to all children to prevent the spread or return of polio as a pandemic , the church claims it goes against “god’s will” and today polio is slowly coming back into the fray as a result . I will not leave the Sub –Saharan African continent, just yet, for there is still one example of how religious inhibition of the use of technology, causes the lives of millions of people, before I divulge into this topic, I would like to add that in most parts of Africa the only source of information are religious institutions hence, these charlatans exploited the gullibility of the public, who clearly do not know better. The prohibition of the use of condoms in an AIDS ridden continent, clearly demonstrates what the genocidal stupidity of religion is.


Dogma has been as odd with Science from the time of Copernicus and Galileo, Science is slowly but surely diminishing the need for religion and clearly showing the fallibility of religious, explanations. Faith is irrational believe, faith is believe despite of and probably due to the lack of evidence. Religion today has turned into nothing but an insidious and avaricious businesses, which need gullible and weak minds to reap profit from.


Almost every great oppressor and dictator has used religion to justify their motives and keep the masses silence, Hitler said in his memoir the Mein Kampf, that he believed whatever he was doing is accordance to the Almighty creator, and Napoleon said himself that “religion is a great way of keeping the common people quiet”.




Religion is an adversary of freedom of speech, skepticism and rational inquisition, which are key elements of science. I firmly believe if it wasn’t for religious inhibition and tunnel vision, science would have prospered beyond what it is today, and we would have far better inventions, superior sources of fuel and better ways to conserve energy, religion is science’s biggest “cockblock”. Science provides concrete explanations and provides real comfort, religion on the other hand does the complete opposite, it conjures up theories that apparently explain a lot, yet postulate nothing, and it is the one thing in the world that exudes false comfort like no other. If humanity is to survive for the next ten million years or even the next million it will depend greatly on the advancement of our technology ,after all , most species go extinct after that period of time , or at least that is what the history of evolution and natural selection has taught us , in order to ensure the survival and prosperity of our species , religion should stop trying to prohibit the teaching or real Science in schools , and stop hindering the progress of Science as we know it today . Charlatans should be screaming on the streets holding cardboard and selling pencils not in positions of authority and power. False comfort is humanities most dangerous illusion, one that should not be encouraged. Sadly, false comfort is an attractive commodity to humans, it attracts us, the same way an insect is attracted to a Venus flytrap.




Science is an amazingly beautiful thing, it helps us understand nature, and evolutionary biology in particular makes us understand that we are animals too; we aren’t special, like most monotheistic religions propose. We are simply animals, who are different from other mammals, because we have larger and more developed brains and we are bipedal, we are part of the natural world, not above it. Science is the beauty of the natural world; Science is the poetry of nature, which is crying to be understood. One does not have to be a scientist to appreciate Science (and its physical form –technology), the same way one does not need to be historian to adore history, or one does not have to be a musician to appreciate music.


The word mundane, means dull, when it really shouldn’t considering it is derived from the Latin word “mundus”, which means the world, and the world is anything but dull, it is an entity which epitomizes the state of implausible beauty. Science helps us to understand this beauty better , through evidence and reason , thus making this beauty plausible , which indirectly makes it far more amazing , and we can not only stand in awe at the beauty of nature , but we now know through Science how that beauty has come into existence as well. This is truly a remarkable feat.



Science discovers nuclear energy; politics uses nuclear energy to annihilate entire cities. Science makes planes fly religion makes planes fly into buildings. Science helps the poor, the weak, and those in the middle, economics (capitalism) carters only to the upper strata of society. These three components of the pecoda trinity, is what is holding society back destroying nature and crushing empathy from the face of humanity. Rationality, reason, evidence, nous, acumen – these are all words that are synonymous to Science, yet these are the very things that every aspect of this trinity forsakes, each in its own way. I think it is pretty evident that humanity requires a huge paradigm shift before it’s too late , a world of equality where there are no monarchs , deities , gods , kings , just men , living in harmony with the natural world whilst progressing through the use of Science and Technology the way it is supposed to be used . Science and technology are powerful things and possibly the best things that mankind has ever come up with be it through art or medicine, it has helped us. However placing this power in the hands of greedy bigoted conservatives, is similar to placing vitamin supplements in their hands, these fools will not read the guidelines and take more than they should and destroy their livers in the process.


Power is a treacherous tool when placed in the hands of a few individuals, but when placed in the hands of each and every individual in equal amounts, then the ideal society is achieved.


There needs to be change in the world, the hour is late, our most basic instinct – common sense, demands the change, it’s time we stood up and fought against the three major retardants of our progression as a species. Most people will naturally say that we should let these things be , that does not surprise me at all , after all , those who remain incredulous to the truth live long and fruitful lives , those embrace the truth and fight for it are silenced , it’s no wonder society is comfortable living on its knees.


In the next part, I will look at how Science and Art are one , I will do my level best to dispel the myth that one , cannot be both rational and creative at the same time . I will also demonstrate, why it is inherently better to think with the mind , than the “heart” . The next part has already been written, I will post that and a third part which would be a “conclusion” before the new year, and I would like to thank you for reading.

The OUT Campaign

Atheists have always been at the forefront of rational thinking and beacons of enlightenment, and now you can share your idealism by being part of the OUT Campaign.

Atheists are far more numerous than most people realize. COME OUT of the closet! You'll feel liberated, and your example will encourage others to COME OUT too. (Don't "out" anybody else, wait for them to OUT themselves when they are ready to do so).

The OUT Campaign allows individuals to let others know they are not alone. It can also be a nice way of opening a conversation and help to demolish the negative stereotypes of atheists. Let the world know that we are not about to go away and that we are not going to allow those that would condemn us to push us into the shadows.

As more and more people join the OUT Campaign, fewer and fewer people will feel intimidated by religion. We can help others understand that atheists come in all shapes, sizes, colours and personalities. We are labourers and professionals. We are mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers and grandparents. We are human (we are primates) and we are good friends and good citizens. We are good people who have no need to cling to the supernatural.

It is time to let our voices be heard regarding the intrusion of religion in our schools and politics. Atheists along with millions of others are tired of being bullied by those who would force their own religious agenda down the throats of our children and our respective governments. We need to KEEP OUT the supernatural from our moral principles and public policies.

I strongly urge all those who see the message above , to support this noble cause in whatever way they can , joining it is the first step . Yes we are a minority , but that doesn't mean we don't have an opinion as well , atheists have no representation in parliaments , pro bono organizations that promote Science and Reason aren't given tax exemption , astrology books out number astronomy books in book shops , if we don't speak up now , charlatans will continue to suck society dry . The "out campaign" is not the organization of atheists , it's by no means trying to make atheism a religion ,after all like Mark Schnitzius said : “If atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair color”. It is simply an edifice by which we can express our views and promote reason in an unreasonable world , after all organizing atheists in a similar vein as a religion would be nearly impossible , after all herding atheists would be like herding cats . I personally cant fathom a world where faith healers outnumber doctors , or where clergymen have so much influence that our laws are derived from ancient scripture , but sadly that is what the world is dissolving into , it is no longer a clear thinking oasis , but simply a despondent breeding ground for irrational thought . We have science books in schools that claim that the universe is created by a supreme entity , these are the same books that don't even mention Darwin's FACT of evolution . Coming out and standing up and being counted is the first step to being heard and being heard is the first step to change . A minority we maybe , but a voice we still have , lets not allow that voice to scour in the dark any longer . Think about the Tienanmen man who stood in front of those gargantuan tanks , that is true courage , that's something we all should be inspired by as we move slowly towards , a border less world , one with peace , serenity and above all - reason . A naturalistic world view , makes us focus on living on life and giving our best not only too ourselves but those around us . Let us end the apartheid , we already have race to divide humanity , do we really need creed and dogma to divide us as well ?? Shouldn't the human race be the only race that matters , shouldn't globalization be making the world a smaller place , not divide it even further ?? Joining and supporting the "out campaign" may be a small step , but after all it is always the smallest steps or the first steps that matter the most in any journey , if we don't take that step now , and come out , when will we ?? Tomorrow ?? , Next week ?? Next year ?? , the idea of " tomorrow" is dangerous one , for the promise of a tomorrow is never certain , it also makes us want to procrastinate , imagine if today was your last day , wouldn't you want to make a change ?? Regardless of how minuscule a contribution maybe , it is still an essential part of the building process . Let us all dare to dream with John Lennon , these lyrics speak out to me in more ways than one , it is also the official song of Amnesty International ( which is an admirable organization ) , so I just thought I would share it will all of you.

the "respect" delusion

I once told a comrade, that if I started blogging, I would lose more friends than I would gain, and sadly ( and perhaps ironically )my premonition turned out to be spot on for once. The excess baggage that comes bundled with having a forum to express myself is becoming extremely annoying and quite frankly (at times) not worth the effort. However having said that I believe, I have indeed been kind enough to indulge and humor all the people who perhaps a couple of hundred years ago, would have had someone like me burned alive , hung , sent to the guillotine or at least something along those macabre and morbid lines . What puzzles me however is how these people, who feel so strongly about their beliefs are afraid to publicly express their opinions (using the comment option at the end of each post or the cbox ). For some reason these people choose to convey their hatred towards me , by attacking me personally via instant messages , emails and even personal messages on Facebook . Which makes me wonder?? Why I even bother to having a medium for feedback on this blog in the first place?? (Let me assure you they are not there for purely aesthetic reasons.)

Perhaps it was an error on my part, for using my MSN messenger account, Facebook, and my Gmail account to publicize this blog in the first place. Nevertheless, I am personally not livid about the negative remarks and all the hatred being shoved at me , by people whose creeds / believe systems , more often than not , are supposedly staunch advocates for tolerance , forgiveness and almost every other aspect of morality and empathy that one can mention . I am simply dismayed , as I said before by the fact that all these merchants of hate and proponents of tunnel vision , seem to be too cowardly to express their views publicly on this blog and choose to extend their ghastly opinions and “ well wishes ” towards me in a pusillanimous manner . Honestly , to all my readers , I do not see any reason for you not to express your loathing or your sermons of contempt in a more public manner , which would be on this blog itself , unless you yourself , are for whatever reason it may be, are ashamed , of your respective views or believes , if that is so , I honestly do feel a colossal level of pity for you , for it must be difficult for someone to hold believes which they are embarrassed of (Personally it would eat me up inside).

I would also like to point out, that despite the fact that I am indeed an ATHIEST ( oppss .. cover your ears kids ) , and I do feel that no good can come from a lie , delusion and something that thrives solely on false comfort or more plainly put – the placebo effect . I never intended to blog explicitly about religion in the first place. For two simple reasons, the first being, I have honestly grown weary of the debate - after all how on earth, do you tell someone that their imaginary friend doesn’t exist, and the second reason being there are far better people than myself, to properly articulate and convey their thoughts on these subjects - one of them, for example would be a close friend of mine, whom I hold in high regard who also blogs on similar topics. (Hello, mirror it’s so glad to see you my friend)

Though , this changed , when my first somewhat “controversial” post , that contained my poem “Venal Trust” - which I irreverently and light-heartedly dubbed “ I took my evil pills today ..” , was for some reason automatically subjected to criticism from spiteful sheep , who assumed the poem was sacramental in one way or the other . I would , first of all like to point out now, that particular poem (in a nutshell) was about how politicians abuse their power time and time again , yet aren’t subject any form of justice . It had no ties or references what so ever to god, religious dogma and the bigotry that comes with it. Yet, I received a great deal of codswallop from a few “concerned” individuals about how I need to be “saved” or about how I was going to suffer eternal damnation. I guess, even when I don’t blog about faith, people with faith, want to fuck me up for some anomalous reason. Hence, I lost my “patience” – in a manner of speaking, and decided to be myself and not to hold back my opinions any longer . After all when I didn’t blog about it , people assumed I did , and I had to deal with the flack , so I might as well blog about it and get the same disdainful treatment anyway .

I think , I have already made it clear , but I will repeat myself again , to avoid any misinterpretation THIS TIME AROUND , I’m open to feedback , whether it is positive or negative . (I’m especially open to constructive criticism. In fact , I love this particular form of feedback , more than I enjoy compliments , after all , I feel that people who thrive solely on compliments are simply people who need affirmation that they are worth something). I’m simply urging all my readers, if you really feel strongly about something and feel the need to butcher me with your words, please do via the various mediums for feedback available on this blog. If, you choose not to expose your identity then fine by all means, please use a pseudonym, as I am sure that is indeed a viable option. Perhaps all this might sound like a cheap ploy for more comments , well I assure you it is not , I am just sick and tired and honestly at my wits with the constant “hemorrhage” my personal accounts have been subjected to thus far . Believe or not, I do have far better things to do than entertain a legion of maundering bigots.

Now that, that particular shenanigan is out of the way, let’s venture to the next part of this particular post – RESPECT. I’m going be very blunt and concise here and ask the question – has religion/god earned the unspoken degree of respect which it is accorded?? . My answer to that would simply be – NO, because if it has then well Charles Manson (and on a lighter note fairies and unicorns), should be allotted the same degree of tacit reverence as well.

We are so often taught in life that, respect is earned, and not automatically rendered to any particular person, subject, entity or idea, so why should religion be any different. For example if I were to criticize or question, the credibility of your favorite movie, football team, band or even your political views , it would be perfectly normal and acceptable it probably would not ( in most cases ) , incite odium or hostility . Yet when someone comes out and openly slanders an individual’s believe in the supernatural (religion/faith), this is immediately considered taboo, and the individual that questions it, is often looked at as a dim-witted fool, who should have known better. Perhaps, this particular “rule” was implemented and embedded into society, centuries ago to protect the sanctity of religion; after all it is indeed fragile considering how it can be blown away by a whiff of common sense or a gust of Science.

Whenever someone wants to justify something utterly ludicrous, all they have to say to avoid any further queries is - “Oh, that’s my faith” or “Its Gods will” and as if by instinct all the reservations or suspicions that existed prior to that , seems to have vanished , for no apparent or sensible reason . Think about it , what would happen if this invisible and seemingly impenetrable veil of respect is allowed to linger , one could justify anything from carnage , laughable rituals and rites to sexism in the name of god ( not that is hasn’t been done already ).

Also, isn’t it ironic how throughout the course of history “god’s will” , always seems to correspond with the will of man , and more often than not , these “celestial messages from above” turn out to be extremely profitable cash cows to the “men of the cloth” / “men of god”/ “clergymen” call them whatever you may - for I simply refer to these individuals as charlatans.

I feel that organised belief/faith is the most preposterous form off believe there is. After all seeing as how every individual is so different from one another , how can anyone possibly be able to follow the believes or values of one man or in some instances a group of men that was written hundreds or thousands of years ago . While our society changes rapidly, new rules are more often than not implemented to keep up with the change (I’m not saying all of the change has been good or productive, as there is still A LOT to be done). Religion /organised belief, remains impervious to change as it constantly and adamantly clings on to the same archaic rituals, rites and believes, many of which are honestly out of place and at times simply farcical, in the progressive world we live in .With the wheels of change turning at warp speed, organised belief seems to be one of the few things that have remained stagnant, which in away makes it an adversary of “progression” as it constantly clings on the words and doctrines of primeval scripture .

Religion should no longer be the topic that scours in the shadows , the untouchable entity , the plague that is allowed to prosper . My friends -Mr. Nous and Ms. Rationality and I are personal sick of religion being regarded as the white elephant in the room that nobody wants to or dares to – question or talk about.

Now let us move to the next section of this “epigrammatic” post, this part is merely a sub-topic of the previous part – RESPECT, this subdivision deals with – MUTUAL RESPECT, or more specifically mutual respect and the perceived existence of equal rights between believers and non-believers.

The main reason , I feel the need to divulge into this topic , is simply because I have meet one too many religious people , who have little or no esteem for atheists , nihilists and even to a certain extent agnostics , yet they expect us to have a huge degree of respect for their faith and beliefs .

First of all, honestly what more can I expect?? When believers can’t even observe an illusion of “mutual respect” amongst themselves?? Almost every religion pretty much preaches that their path is the only right path, and if you follow their doctrines to the letter and without question then you will gain entry to some kind of heavenly abode and attain “eternal bliss”. Now, with that said doesn’t that mean that all other religions or believe systems are sacrilegious and completely false, and wouldn’t that make all others who follow those beliefs, heretics or infidels. Believers have been killing each other to justify their respective religions - as the only right path, long before atheism or Science ever came into prominence.

Even religions that do preach one god or that all other beliefs are to be respected, carries with them a mammoth degree of arrogance that clearly shows that they too consider their way to be the only way, to eternal salvation. I would like to quote a friend of mine now, who basically summed up, the real subliminal message that is behind the “mutual respect” between believers: -

“When a religious persons says he or she respects another religious persons beliefs, all he or she is really saying is “ let them be ,when they die , they will know I was right” . (Thanks Pubicsh )

Ok , now that I have gotten that out of the way , I will get back to the main point , which is the emphasis of this part of the post , which is as I mentioned earlier , the fact that believers clearly have no respect for atheists and free thinkers alike , yet they expect us to have respect for them . If people have equal rights to believe and practice their faiths, then shouldn’t the same measure of tolerance and equality be given to people who do not believe to express themselves openly??

Now seeing as I am an artiste, I will first tackle this point from a musicians stand point, whenever a band portrays atheistic , free thinking or agnostic views in their lyrics, their album is immediately banned in most countries. Let’s take the band Slayer for example, this band openly speaks expresses their views through their music and should have the right to do so freely if indeed “mutual respect” did exist between believers and non believers , yet they have been ridiculed , defecated and hounded by churches and various other religious institutions . Oh well , perhaps most of the readers on this blog will not be familiar with Slayer (although they are a relatively famous band) , so I will use arguably the biggest heavy metal band in the world – Metallica , as an example as well , their song “ The God That Failed ” ( from their self titled release “Metallica” -1991- , more commonly referred to as the Black Album) , was immediately deemed blasphemous , and the band abstained from performing that song in several countries . Over the years and throughout the history of music, bands and artists from almost every genre, have received protesters and vehement demonstrations from religious organizations, which has either resulted in the artist being insulted excessively , abused physically or even having their music banned simply because their views don’t coincide with the views of the church or any other religious establishment , for that matter . This kind of derogatory attitude does not end simply with musicians, it extends to authors as well, one perfect example would be Salman Rushdie , who is a British Indian novelist , who received death threats and was subject to extremely violent vehement protests , when he released his book “ The Satanic Verses ” in 1988 , and there were even death threats to the book stores and the distributors that sold his book . Clearly is not only Science that suffers or has suffered opposition, from the narrow one track mind and twisted clutch of organised faith, art or more specifically the freedom of artistic expression has suffered gravely as well . – So much for “equal rights”.... huh??

One other reason why I say religious people have no respect what so ever for non believers , is they always feel the need to fabricate stories which claim that some of the greatest minds throughout the course of history were religious or believed in a supernatural or personal god , to suit their own personal benefit . One perfect example would Albert Einstein , who is quite possibly one of the most brilliant men to have ever walked the earth , is often called religious and various other things along those comical lines , despite the fact he has never come out and said so himself and has spoken out fervently against personal gods .

"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." From a letter Einstein wrote in English, dated 24 March 1954.

"During the youthful period of mankind's spiritual evolution, human fantasy created gods in man's own image who, by the operations of their will were supposed to determine, or at any rate influence, the phenomenal world... The idea of God in the religions taught at present is a sublimation of that old conception of the gods. Its anthropomorphic character is shown, for instance, by the fact that men appeal to the Divine Being in prayers and plead for the fulfilment of their wishes... In their struggle for the ethical good, teachers of religion must have the stature to give up the doctrine of a personal God, that is, give up that source of fear and hope which in the past placed such vase power in the hands of priests." Albert Einstein, reported in Science, Philosophy and Religion: A Symposium, edited by L. Bryson .

Read those excerpts for yourself and judge whether or not religions have abused and perverted his words and made tons of false claims that he did indeed believe in a mystical “GOD”. I personally feel to conjure up lies such as those that give the illusion and the false notion that Albert did in fact believe in an old man in the sky, a supernatural creator or that he had an imaginary friend, is indeed a grave insult to his intelligence and mars the memory of the man himself, who above all, dedicated his live to understanding the magnificence and the splendor of the universe and the way it works using Science, rationality, logic and reason.

Einstein , is not the only one to have been subject to such vile fabrications , Charles Darwin is another , who has suffered from absurd rumors. After his death , stories / rumors inevitably began to emerge that he had a death bed conversion and embraced god , some even go as far as saying he denounced his theory of evolution and that he regretted writing his masterpiece , The Origin of Species. This perhaps has resulted in Richard Dawkins , saying in an interview , that he wants to have a tape recorder with him , when he bites the dust , honestly , judging by the tales that Scientists have been subjected to after their death and at times even during their lifetime , can you really blame him?? .

The stigma that comes with being an atheist has resulted in many people being frightened to come out with their beliefs openly, thus we probably have more “closet atheists” , than we do those who are more open with their beliefs , and this solely down to religious tunnel vision coupled with the profound loathing of religious leaders towards people who dare speak out question dogma . Religion has tried to oppress the free mind for so long that for some it would be unnatural to have an unshackled mind. Society clearly still has no respect for atheists and free thinkers alike , especially in non secularist countries, where atheists are often given the same degree of respect that is accorded to maggots and worms , and are often viewed at as the lepers in society .

One clear example of this, was when I was in high school and a friend of mine, was kind enough to tell almost every teacher that taught me, that I was an atheist. As a result one of the teachers was gracious enough to tell me “You are a devil, god will not bless you, you won’t pass your exams, just watch you will fail in life”, now if that doesn’t demonstrate a believers “respect” towards a non believer, I don’t know what will.

Go to any atheist or free thinking website or forum on the internet , or even YouTube videos that contain anything that pertains to science , logic or reason that contradicts with religion , and you will see a plethora of patronizing comments , from believers , who either label atheists with various inhumane and hurtful terms , together with the excessive use of profanities and depraved messages from the religious people preaching verses from their various “holy” scribes , and claim that they share because they care , and because they want to save us from the bowels of perdition , I believe I can speak on the behalf of most atheists and free thinkers alike when I say “ thanks , but no thanks”.

Every time an Atheist dies, the world is better off as a result of that dead Atheist being dead, & its damned God-forsaken soul burning in the fiery pits of Hades. :)

Which begs another related question, do Atheists cry at funerals? If so, why? Since Atheists hate God, and they hate Family, and they hate Country, who are they crying for? It is true: The only good Atheist is a dead Atheist.

Middle easterm countries aren’t as interested in ID because they don’t need to deal with nearly as much atheist scum evolutionists with their evolving mind tricks. All our liberties are allowing the atheists here to destroy our society. George H.W. Bush was intelligent and thoughtful enough to say that atheists shouldn’t really be citizens. On the other side of the fence, however, you will rarely see an atheist doing the same thing, which is probably because there is nothing what so ever to preach in atheism, as atheism is a “non prophet organisation”. I would also like to note that in the previous sentence that I used the term “organisation” loosely and solely as a metaphor, because atheism is most definitely not an organisation , and organising atheists would be not only impossible - seeing as atheists , free thinkers and sceptics alike , vary excessively in their ideals and stances on a plethora of issues , it ( organising atheists) will also go against the concept or the idea of atheism and possibly make it as exasperating and as trivial as organised belief . Atheism , is the believe in facts and while everyone can have their own personal truths , no one can have their own “ personal facts ” ( what an oxymoron ) , as that would be both farcical and dim .

Nevertheless , the only “atheist” organisation that I would support , would be one that protects ones right not to believe , the same way there are organisations and bodies who protect people’s rights to believe , especially considering ( as I have mentioned before ) the stigma , and the condescending treatment that most atheists still receive today . In fact, the term first time the term “atheist” was used, it was applied derogatorily and belittlingly to label anyone who did not believe in a god or a higher power. After all , in the eyes of most if not all religions ( especially the main monotheistic ones ) , it is wrong “ to choose ” for one’s self as that would make that particular individual a heretic, and seeing as the word “ heretic” is derived from a Greek word which basically means “ to choose “ , and the word “heresy” , means “ choose” , you can understand how that particular analogy fits . Heresy however, is often confused with apostasy, a heretic is someone who disagrees with certain doctrines in religious scripture or “law”, but an apostate, is someone denounces his/her faith completely. Apostasy is punishable by death by according to the “divine letters of law”, by a certain major monotheistic religion . Most atheists and sceptics are pretty much “apostates” anyway, seeing most of us, are brought up religious, only to denounce our faith later in life.

First of all , I do not feel it is fair for a child , to be automatically indoctrinated into the religion of his or her parents . This is not only wrong , but it is also clear evidence that religion survives solely by taking advantage of the innocence of children , from generation to generation , time and time again , the same nonsense is passed down from the grandfather to the father , from the father to the son , and the process repeats itself . Perhaps the only reason religion is the only thing in the world that is allowed to brand children by birth , is due to the unspoken degree of respect it is accorded , that applies to pretty much nothing else . Just because both the parents hold particular beliefs and / or are followers of a certain religion, that does not mean the child should be cast under the same umbrella as well . If both the parents , were racists / xenophobes , would you , say “ oh that’s a racist child ”, or if both the parents were communists or Marxists , would you say “ oh that is a Marxist child ” .

A child’s mind is vulnerable it does what its told , because in the early years , they have no choice but to follow and do as they are instructed, because if they were to experiment or question what adults tell them it could be fatal to a child . For example , if children were to question their parents when they are told“ not to jump off a cliff “ , or if they were to question their parents if they are told “ not to play on the street” , it could cost that particular child his or her life . A child’s brain is genetically programmed to accept and absorb whatever it is told or taught by an adult or an authority figure, and by bringing up a child by the religion of his or her parents / or by classifying a child with the religion of his or her parents, religion capitalises on the purity and vulnerability of a child’s mind to ensure its survival, in a way it’s a parasite that imprints itself on a vacant and defenceless space , and stays there from generation to generation .

Seriously , if you feel it is right for a child to be brought up by/in/with the religion of his or her parents , because “that’s the way it is supposed to be” or “ that is what the child choose ” , then shouldn’t we allow infants and children to vote as well after all they are already born with their own “ chosen ” , personal truths ,it shouldn’t really be a problem for them to pick the appropriate political party during and election would it ?? . The way religion indoctrinates children by birth and brainwashes them, is not only cruel but should be considered a form of child abuse that is punishable by law, or perhaps religion is the only form of brainwashing that is legal. After all, shouldn’t a child be exposed to all beliefs as well as Scientific reason, appropriately and adequately, so that when the child does grow up , he or she can choose for his or her self , what they themselves , choose to be a part of .

Technically, we are all born atheists in a sense, the same way a dog or a cat or a snake is born atheist. After all, when we are born, we have no inclination to any particular ideology, or the belief in any kind of higher power. It is only later in life that we develop any form of belief and or ideals.

Honestly , I cannot fathom , why society views atheists as the enemies or the “bad guys” , at all . After all , you would be hard pressed to find someone who killed , substantiated carnage/bloodbaths/massacares or committed any despicable act in the name of atheism .

I think I should stop now, as I am straying off topic, or perhaps this post has no real topic or preset boundaries, maybe this post is like evolution – it has no ultimate goal. I began writing this post solely because I am disgusted by the unearned and possibly biased level of respect that is accorded to religion, which makes it in away, an unviable topic for discussion or something that is incredulous to any form of descent.

Religion like Karl Marx said, is the opium of the people. People thrive on religious beliefs, as it creates the perfect distraction to the one thing that perhaps all men fear – death. Faith/religion is the perfect smoke screen as it provides an afterlife, nirvana, eternal bliss, heaven (call it what you will) . When you think of that, it makes religion sound greedy in a way, after all it promises life after death or even reincarnation, why can’t we just accept the truth, regardless of how bleak it maybe, that THIS IS IT, one life that is all we have, and we should live it to the fullest, after all life is the great indulgence and death is the great abstinence. Or are we the human race, filled which so much avarice that we will always want more??

I’m sure there are some of you , out there thinking right now , that it is pointless , to talk about religion or criticize it , because “ and eye for an eye makes the world blind ” , well honestly I would agree with you , if the world wasn’t already blinded by a potent amalgamation of religion , naivety and politics . In fact, Gandhi himself spoke out against religion in his lifetime -

The most heinous and the must cruel crimes of which history has record have been committed under the cover of religion or equally noble motives. - Mohandas K Gandhi, Young India, July 7, 1950.

Throughout this post, I have not explicitly mentioned or singled out any particular religion, and I constantly used euphemisms such as "most religions” or “some religions” or “organised belief” , because I feel that all religions are equally to blame in shrouding the world in a miasma of ignorance . There is no debate or doubt that the three main monotheistic religions are the main culprits here, but that does not mean the other polytheistic religions or religions that were initially meant to be “ways of life” , aren’t even the smallest way part of the problem as well , while these religions preach one thing , they all more often than not do another . They all rely or have some basis in the realm of the supernatural .

Religion today , be it - polytheistic , monotheistic and even “ways of life” ( as I have mentioned before ) , are nothing but despicable franchises and businesses , ran in more ways than one to reap profit from their followers and society . The same money used to fund faith related practises can be put to much better use, just look around you there is so much more we can do with the money than put it towards funding the worship of a creator or any kind of mystical and paranormal higher power. Organised belief / religion , makes it perfectly normal for otherwise rational and intelligent adults to have imaginary friends , which in many ways makes faith/religion akin to schizophrenia .

All of this really comes down to one thing, the excessive degree of reverence that is accorded to religion. Think about it this way, if you were part of any group, society, party or sect that was associated with as much naivety, misogyny, homophobia, bigotry, violence, malice, and sheer and utter ignorance as religion , you most likely leave in protest , or perhaps you wouldn’t have joined such an insidious and callous group in the first place , if you stayed on it would be like aiding and abetting a felony , but the reason no one actually thinks about , or more specifically dares to think about religion this way , is simply as I have mentioned for the umpteenth time in this post – the undeserved and colossal degree of respect that is accorded to it , and the longer we allow it to linger the worst it gets . If you do not treat cancer , it will spread , it is as simple as that , there is nothing more to it , it’s not rocket science , just simple logic , but then again logic as well as it's close relative common sense is scorned upon by society is it not ??

Perhaps it’s ironic , that the stronger the Scientific evidence gets , and the louder the cry of reason becomes , the deeper society divulges and dabbles in the supernatural , I find this to be fairly ridiculous and not to mention and outright insult to the capacity and capabilities of the human mind. After all moving back instead of forward seems to be absurd don’t you think??

I wonder if mankind, attributed our technological advancement and all our other various intricate and magnificent achievements to ourselves , instead of crediting it to a higher power , would we feel more content with ourselves as individuals and as a race ?? , and if it does indeed make us feel “ more content ??” , and gives us a greater sense of “self worth ?? ” , perhaps we will for once feel happy , and maybe we will stop killing each other for once .

However having said that, I still do not feel we are by any means the superior species, in fact I believe humanity is perhaps evolution and natural selection’s failed experiment, we are beneath monkeys, pigs , birds and all other creatures , after all we are the only species that is committing matricide - we are slowly but surely destroying Mother Earth , in fact if someone were to call me an animal right now I would take it as a compliment . Especially looking at the current state of humanity, we are solely responsible for the destruction of our planet, why we can't we just stop, hunting for gold and lusting for wealth ?? and realise THERE IS NO “PLANET B” . (I’m really straying of topic now, perhaps this is a subject for another post) Anyway, another reason, why I feel that it would be a compliment and not an insult, if someone were to call me and animal is because animals don’t believe in god , they are way smarter than that .

Finally, I would like to point out, that I’m not telling anyone what they should or should not believe, as that would make me as bad as the people I so earnestly detest. These are simply my views , and I’m expressing them for three simple reasons , the first being simply because I can , and the second is because I feel I should and the third which is probably the most important reason , I write my views down , because as I am still learning and I still have so much to learn , writing my views down helps me understand them better . I don’t know if that made sense to any of you but that is indeed my train of thought. I apologise if I have offended anyone in anyway, but these are my views and opinions and while they maybe be flawed and I admit that they are, I’m not in very least sorry for expressing them , I have been penning down my views and ideas for a long time now , be it through poetry , lyrics or “essays”/ ramblings such as this one , I have only started blogging recently and merely because I could not keep these views and opinions in any longer , I finally grew some common sense , and concluded , that perhaps it is better to express than suppress , thus I ended my “ blogless endeavour ” , and decided to jump straight into the deep end and express my views publicly .

Perhaps , I am a fool for writing this post and all the other posts on this blog , but as long as I remain a curious fool and not an ignorant one then , a fool I am , and a proud one too .

Time, what is time?? To me it is simply the despondent contrivance which we use to quantify the length of our existence, so we can feel an affable sense of achievement, knowing we have survived for an elongated period. Is time bona fide or is it just another one of the many tricks our brain, plays on us?? Why is it regardless, how much we change as individuals?? Time is impervious to change??

A minute still consists of sixty seconds, an hour is still made up of sixty minutes, despite of how much the variables change, the needle still ticks at the same mocking pace that it always has, and probably always will.

Which makes me wonder does , every action really have an equal and opposite reaction or was Newton drunk when he came up with that one . (he probably wasn’t and I just shouldn’t blog when I’m inebriated )

Shouldn’t we be allowed to control time, we ought to be entitled to make our moments of jubilation and bliss last longer, than our moments of sorrow and tribulation. Why are we the slaves to the clock??

Oh well, perhaps, to give man clout over time, would be like giving arsenic to an infant, the end result can only be fatal.

In retrospect, maybe I shouldn’t have written this dim-witted post in the first place. After all, what conclusion can we depict from my latest appalling opus, NOTHING.

Except maybe I should do one of two things, the first being, stop blogging when I’m in a schizophrenic state of mind (which is most of the time) and the second being slightly on the extreme side of things - perhaps I should stop blogging entirely.

Once again, I leave it to my fervent readers (that is, if I have any readers, let alone ardent ones) to decide.

The universe is filled with questions and yet the quandary here is not the dearth of answers, merely the manner in which the preponderance of these questions are approached, why is it that most of us accord a huge degree of respect to certain situations and yet have a profuse amount of irreverence when it comes to others, regardless of how immensely similar they maybe.

For instance, if I asked you if a tiger and an average house cat are from the same family/species?? You would say yes, without even thinking twice or taking a second to contemplate the ramifications, of your answer. Theist / atheist / agnostic / nihilist, or whatever your believe system maybe be , you would probably give me a condescending stare and laugh at me for posing such an inane question is the first place .

However, if I were to ask you if humans and apes are from the same family/species?? , this time you would approach the way you answer this query with a colossal degree of trepidation. In fact, most people would prevaricate. Hence, I would probably garner a mixed response, and most likely a negative one at that. Naturally, theologians would argue that we humans are somewhat superior creatures and that homo sapiens are fashioned in the mirror image of an old man in the sky, and that the very thought that we could be in anyway related to apes, is both demeaning and farcical and not to mention blasphemous .

Take a moment, to dwell on both the questions posed, and please do tell me, how they are any different from one another??


Technically , we are all related , we are the cousins of chimpanzees , somewhat more distant cousins to monkeys more distant distant cousins to manatees and yet even more distant relatives to turnips and bananas .. feel free to continue the list as long as desired.

creative nadir

Its four a.m. , in the morning , I am once again suffering from a “creative nadir” , the guitar has officially become my adversary , once again . As I continue, my endless love - hate relationship , with the one instrument that has wrought my life for better or worst. Despite my profound loathing for the instrument , I continue to ogle at it , reluctantly I pick it up once again and carry on my relentless pursuit for perfection , something that has eluded me thus far . Countless nights spent with my eyes fighting to stay open, my body screaming in agony for even a brief siesta. I hear the screams as nothing but a faint whisper , barely audible over my stubborn will, I remain incredulous to the demands of my body , as I continue to frolic with my good old friend , my ( other ) personal poltergeist – insomnia .

Slowly but surely, through time, I become delirious, the notes began to sound like wails from a banshee. I stare at the guitar’s glistening mirror -esque , black finish , my demoralized visage stares back , dejected , like a fallen soldier holding a white flag up in retreat after being thwarted once a again by a familiar foe . Unable to keep my sangfroid any longer, I give in, irately I lay “Imperium” back into her case and slam it shut, like a frustrated lover, slamming the door on his one true love.

Too estranged with my conscience and filled with the growing pangs of disappointment to go to sleep , I decide to pick out an album to listen too , hopefully I would be able to find even a minuscule shred off inspiration in someone else’s work . Naturally, even picking out an album to listen to, becomes an arduous task. I began to skirmish with myself once again, this time my internal battle pertains to which CD would be appropriate to uplift and enthral my current pessimistic and flustered frame of mind.

Finally, I decide to go back to my roots, I pick out what is arguably Metallica’s magnum opus, the relentless and gargantuan beast that is “Master of Puppets”. I place the disc, into my prehistoric and faithful, Sony Walkman, I often received tremendous amount of ridicule for still having and using one of these , but it doesn’t faze me one bit , in my mind MP3’s and all the other abominations of the digital music age , will never replace original CDs . The sound quality is, undoubtedly vastly superior to anything downloaded digitally, and the thrill of going out and buying an album , knowing you have supported the band you love , is truly a gratifying experience , besides the grotesque world of illegal downloading is slowly but surely killing the music industry as we know it . Everyone downloads music illegally , and that is a sad trait of today’s “modern” society , I myself am guilty of doing so , yes I know , I am a hypocrite , but I do , purchase music as often as possible and as much as my monetary constrains allow me too , and also the factor of living somewhere like this , where everything is censored in one way or another , makes finding any decent heavy metal albums to buy a perilous ordeal , it’s amazing how a country which is a democracy , and has a freedom of speech act in its constitution , constantly tries to restrict foreign cultural and artistic imports and influences from entering the country . Shouldn’t the people be able to choose for themselves, what they deem fit to listen to?? , or is democracy like god, just a myth?? A fable?? Merely a deceptive façade masking the truth?? .

Anyway , enough of that , I feel completely flawed every time I listen to “Master of Puppets” , the album is the perfect amalgamation of classic trash metal and melancholic haunting melodies , which stays embedded in your mind long after your ears are ringing from constant the barrage of balls to the wall metal which graces this album from start to finish . The immaculate and deeply insightful lyrics , also truly leaves me in awe , but is also leaves me befuddled , as most of these lyrics where probably written by James Hetfield , in some kind of drunken stupor , yet they exude a high degree of eloquence that would rival most “ sober” poets and lyricists . For me listening to this album from start to finish is truly a therapeutic experience , it serves as a constant reminder to me , that it is truly possible to achieve the state of musical perfection that has put me on a wild goose chase , for awhile now . It is truly one of the few albums that actually gives me an “eargasm” and allows me to reach a state of nirvana (in a manner of speaking).

However , I would never try to make a carbon copy of this album , for if I did , I would fail miserably , after all who am I , a mere mortal , to attempt to plagiarise , james , lars , kirk and the late cliff burton , who without a shadow of a doubt created an album that epitomizes the ever elusive , state of “perfection” , which I referred to several times in this post . Many bands have tried to emulate this album in the past twenty three years , since its release , and they have failed miserably , most of these copy cat bands have seen all their hopes and dreams eviscerate in front of their very eyes , as a result of attempting to duplicate the master’s greatest art .

Metallica has without a shadow of a doubt shaped the genre to be what it is today. They remain the starting the point for most metal heads , and bands and artists from all across the “ heavy metal plains ” hold them in high regard and consider them an influence in one way or another . Rob Zombie , I believe once said that “Although Black Sabbath created heavy metal , Metallica certainly perfected it.” That statement holds true on so many fronts .Yet most people tend to frown upon Metallica after awhile , particularly once they progress on to “ real metal” , I am personally aghast by this , after all most of these people wouldn’t even be remotely interested or aware of metal , without Metallica in the first place . Metallica has , become synonymous with metal , and vice versa , and this my friends is an irrefutable fact .

I am sick, of all the naysayers and “elitist” metal heads, criticizing and mocking the band I love and without a shadow of a doubt changed my life with their music and gung ho attitude . Is it truly necessary, for metal heads to bite the hand that feeds, as they progress musically?? Or even just as fans??

I admit , it’s a tough pill to swallow when you first discover how easy Metallica songs really are , and how Kirk Hammett isn’t really the most technically proficient guitar player out there , and that most drummers can smoke Lars Ulrich easily in a drum duel , but does that really matter ?? I will shamelessly admit , it did matter to me for a short while , as I began to improve technically as a guitarist , but after awhile you realize , what music is truly about , after all , would you rather be able to play a billion notes per second , or be able to write amazing timeless masterpieces that will be adored , and cherished for ever ??

Everyone has their opinions, and I respect that, although I maybe be , slightly assertive and head strong at times , and also do have a habit of contradicting my own views and ideas ( I am a walking dichotomy after all ). I do respect other peoples points of view , after all it takes seven colours to make a rainbow beautiful not one .

It’s ironic , how I began this post with a writer’s block ( musically ) and nothing to voice out what so ever , yet I have just gone on rambling , venting and quite possibly repeating myself several times in the process ( sorry about that ).

As , most people probably already know , I suffer from “irrepressible verbosity” , and I can’t help it . I am not the kind of person to be succinct, even if I tried , my flaw?? My curse?? My gift?? ....... You decide. I think it is save to get back to writing some music now , “ master of puppets” and writing this , has made me somewhat “ clairvoyant ” and ready to take another swipe at solving my musical conundrum .

Now , I know why people blog , blogging gives people the illusion , that there is actually someone out there who admires their rhetoric , “ listens” , and actually cares about what they do daily , or at least that’s my misanthropic view on things , anyway . ;)
